One other thing I wanted to mention about ch. 9 before catching up with the reading plan: The guy with the writing case is charged to mark all those who should not be killed. At the end of the chapter he returns saying, “I have done as You commanded me.” However, it is not clear in the text whether he ever marked anyone at all. Ezekiel in v. 8 despairs that none will survive, and God responds to him concerning the immensity and thoroughness of the sin. Clearly some survived the slaughter seeing as how we have Jews in our midst today, but the text leaves this somewhat vague.
