Ezekiel 28 – King or Satan?

Considering how often I have heard people claim that Ezekiel 28:12-19 describe not the king or prince of Tyre, but Satan himself, I find it interesting that neither the JSB nor HarCol even mention Satan in the commentary for this chapter. The RSB gives the concept passing mention: “Some take the prophet to be comparing the king of Tyre to Satan, a glorious being who fell from grace,” and it references a remotely similar line in 1 Tim. 3:6, “He must not be a recent convert, or he may become puffed up with conceit and fall into the condemnation of the devil.” I can see the conceptual similarity there, but I have no reason to believe that Paul had Ezekiel 28 in mind when he composed that line.

And… I’m all caught up again!
